Galaxea and JD Sign a Three-Year Strategic Partnership

On August 22, at the 2026 World Robot Conference (WRC), Galaxea and JD.com officially signed a three-year strategic cooperation agreement, witnessed by Li Quan, Member of the Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA).

The signing ceremony was attended by Galaxea CEO Gao Jiyang and CFO Luo Tianqi, along with JD Group's Senior Vice President and President of the Home Appliances and Home Furnishings Business Group, the Head of JD.com's Intelligent Robotics Business Unit, and the Head of Embodied AI within JD.com's Intelligent Robotics Business Unit.

The two companies will deepen their strategic collaboration across omnichannel deployment, intelligent robot sales, joint technology innovation, supply chain services, and industrial market expansion.

The world's first robotic dark store capable of accepting online orders and autonomously completing the entire order fulfillment process was also showcased at WRC through a full-scale, 1:1 demonstration, laying a foundation for the future large-scale commercialization of robotic fulfillment in e-commerce and retail.

Real-World Commercial Operations: 99%+ Success Rate Demonstrates Robots That Actually Work

Unlike conventional robotic demonstrations, the robotic dark store recreates an authentic commercial operating environment. With no human assistance or need for products to be arranged in predefined positions, robots autonomously execute the entire workflow.

Customers place orders through a mini-program, and the robots independently handle order interpretation, path planning, item picking, bag opening and packing, and on-site handover, completing the entire fulfillment process without human intervention. The system is designed for stable, continuous operation around the clock.

Three Core Technological Capabilities Redefining Retail and Logistics Fulfillment

Generalization Across 10,000+ SKUs

Powered by Galaxea's G0.5 embodied foundation model, the robots can recognize and pick from more than 10,000 product types across randomly arranged items and diverse categories, without requiring product-specific programming. This enables generalized operations across a wide range of products and configurations.

Autonomous Error Detection and Recovery Across the Entire Workflow

The robots autonomously coordinate multiple interconnected tasks. When faced with environmental changes, task interruptions, or execution anomalies, they can detect issues in real time, correct errors, and resume operations automatically. This enables reliable execution of complex, long-horizon fulfillment tasks, delivering the robustness required for real-world commercial applications.

Precision Manipulation of Deformable Objects

Addressing one of the most challenging problems in logistics automation, the system handles the unpredictable deformation of plastic bags and the complexities of automated packing. Its ability to manipulate deformable objects enables precise item handling and bagging, offering a new approach to last-mile fulfillment in e-commerce and logistics.

Beyond the Dark Store: A Replicable Model for Commercial Embodied AI

The embodied AI industry has long faced a fundamental challenge: robots that perform impressively in demonstrations often struggle to operate reliably in commercial environments.

The robotic dark store prototype showcased at WRC addresses this challenge by completing the entire workflow—from customer ordering and autonomous robotic fulfillment to product handover—in a realistic retail environment.

With an on-site success rate exceeding 99%, the demonstration validates the technical foundation required for embodied AI to deliver value in real-world commercial applications. It marks a transition from proof-of-concept demonstrations toward measurable, repeatable engineering capabilities.

The end-to-end workflow jointly developed by Galaxea and JD.com—online ordering, autonomous operations, and final handover—goes beyond improving warehouse and logistics efficiency. It also establishes a direct connection between embodied AI and consumer-facing services.

The system's proven capabilities in perception, planning, manipulation, and exception handling offer significant potential for transfer across applications. These capabilities can be extended to convenience stores, pharmacies, fresh food supermarkets, and unmanned retail environments, helping the industry progress from isolated pilot projects toward systematic, large-scale deployment.

This strategic partnership represents a milestone in translating Galaxea's technological capabilities into an integrated industrial solution.

Moving forward, the two companies will deepen their collaboration across multiple areas. They will jointly develop benchmark applications in vertical sectors such as healthcare and logistics, accelerate B2B sales conversion, and leverage government resources and regional industrial ecosystems.

Building on the first RoboBase locations in Hangzhou and Chengdu, the partners will also develop a comprehensive service ecosystem covering the full product lifecycle. Through jointly established authorized after-sales service networks, they aim to enhance the customer experience and support scalable deployment.

Galaxea will continue advancing its foundation models and robotic platforms while working closely with industry partners to accelerate the deployment of embodied AI across more vertical sectors—turning technological innovation into real-world industrial productivity.
